OPW-00029: Password complexity failed for SYS user : Password must contain at least 8 characters

Error while creating a password file with a less secure password, the orapwd terminates with an OPW-00029 error.

$ orapwd file=/u01/app/oracle/product/19.8.0_64/dbs/orapwproddb012 password=J4tr0s!  force=y

OPW-00029: Password complexity failed for SYS user : Password must contain at least 8 characters.

Starting from 12.2 oracle orapwd utility impose complexity in provided password 

we can create password file by providing completed password 

$orapwd file=/u01/app/oracle/product/19.8.0_64/dbs/orapwproddb012 password=Jc5tk0pS$  force=y

if you want to use simple password try with  format option 

$orapwd file=/u01/app/oracle/product/19.8.0_64/dbs/orapwproddb012 password=J4tr0s!  force=y format=12
